Department of Innovations and Tools for Automated Collection of Open Source Information

The Department of Innovations and Tools Development is a platform for open source experts wishing to strengthen their capacities and create technical solutions applicable to daily strategic, operational and technical issues.

Such solutions are especially challenging due to the speed with which technology and sources of public information change. That is why tools for collecting and processing open source intelligence must evolve constantly.

OSINT experts must be trained to use a range of tools and sources by applying the appropriate methodology. In this sense, having a range of skills is preferable over subspecialisation.

Being aware of different tools available broadens the horizon for the expert, even when it comes to potential sources of information. A properly selected tool is the first step towards valuable information.

The Department aims to explore the most advanced tools and strategies of collection and share the knowledge with the intelligence community. We will strive to address the shortcomings in the open source information collection and inform contributing countries of new tools and information sources that can strengthen capacities of the intelligence community. Besides providing actionable solutions to contributing countries, our goal is also to develop a knowledge base related to collecting open source information.

The Centre of Excellence will assess new tools and information sources, bearing in mind that each of them carry a certain amount of security risk.
